I was sorry to see that the council plans to close the Maxwell Park Community Centre and sell off the site.
We have been promised a high street meeting place and internet cafe for youngsters for more than a year now, and still nothing has happened.
While I understand that the youngsters find the existing building unattractive, it has a lot going for it. Its location by Maxwell Park and the new skateboarding area and away from residents and off licences while still close to the high street would seem to be ideal!
Perhaps most important of all, it is there! The proposed high street cafe seems little more than pie in the sky. We could still be waiting to find a suitable site this time next year.
Why not refurbish the existing building and equip it to a high standard so it is attractive to the youngsters and all the other users and let it remain in use for many years to come!
