St Albans beat Harrow RFC 22 5 on Saturday, October 27, with a workman like performance against the forward oriented team from North London.
St Albans opened the scoring through centre Alderton who reaped the rewards of supporting his driving forwards. Fly half Stevenson converted but from the restart Harrow replied with a well worked short-range lineout move, which saw Harrow throw in all their forwards and half their backs!
St Albans quickly established themselves in Harrow's 22. Following a lineout, Stevenson attempt to move the ball wide and thanks to a fortuitous bounce the ball found its way into winger Dickinson's hands and he cut through the defence to score in the corner.
An electric break from centre Morrette ended in disaster as the Kiwi went down injured following a late challenge. St Albans reorganised their midfield with veteran Lee Jackson racing off the bench to play fullback.
The teams changed round with St Albans leading 11pts to 5. Harrow's singled minded approach to the game was a tough test for St Albans pack, which tackled their host's forwards to a standstill.
St Albans played the corners then sensing Harrow's fullback anticipating a long hanging kick, Stevenson moved the ball through the hands where winger Dickinson rounded his man and step inside the floundering fullback to score under the posts.
The simplest of conversions gave St Albans the breathing space to enjoy the remainder of the match. However the boys from Boggymead could only add a further 3pts for a Harrow misdemeanour.
