PEACE campaigners gathered outside HMS Warrior in Northwood on Saturday afternoon to demonstrate opposition against the killing of innocent people from the bombing of Afghanistan.
About 20 demonstrators from the Watford Stop The War Coalition stood on the pavement opposite the base in Sandy Lane, holding placards in a pre-designated area, marked off by cones.
Northwood base was deemed appropriate for the demonstration because of its use to organise the bombing of Iraq, Yugoslavia, and its likely use in helping organise attacks on Afghanistan.
A handful of police were at the scene to ensure the protest passed without incident as National Front supporters were stationed further down the road in Pretty Corner - the delegation's designated area.
By 4pm the police presence had been reduced dramatically, as the National Front supporters drove off, without any confrontation between the two groups.
