HACKNEY cab drivers in Bushey could be offered a taxi rank in Kemp Place after two proposed ranks in Bushey Village and Bushey Heath were scrapped last week.
Councillor Spencer Pitfield called a meeting of councillors and officers on Wednesday, October 31 to discuss alternative sites for the ranks originally proposed for High Road and Rudolph Road, after local residents, businesses and councillors objected to the plans.
While councillors in Bushey Heath argued that a taxi rank was unwarranted in the area and would not be used, councillors in Bushey Village suggested Kemp Place should be used as alternative site to the Rudolph Road rank.
Local residents and businesses will now be consulted about a three-space rank in Kemp Place and, if the scheme is successful, officers will consider an additional rank for Bushey Village.
However, Councillor Pitfield has assured residents that, under the new proposal, if the scheme does not work it will be scrapped. The scheme will be reviewed in six months.
