A WOMAN from Markyate received serious facial injuries following a road traffic accident outside Harpenden Rugby Club in the early hours of Sunday morning.
The accident, which took place at 2.17am, on Redbourn Lane, involved three vehicles: a Volvo, Renault Clio and a Vauxhall Astra.
The 21-year-old woman from Markyate, was a front seat passenger in the Vauxhall Astra, which was travelling away from Harpenden at the time of the crash. The woman is being treated at the Central Middlesex Hospital in London and is described as being in a critical condition.
The driver of the Astra, 23-year-old Ms Joanna Harris of Butt Field View, St Albans, received a cut to her left hand and seat belt injuries. A second passenger, 26-year-old Mr Richard Hadwin of Drakes Drive, St Albans, received minor facial injuries.
The Volvo was being driven by a 37-year-old woman from Garston, she was uninjured.
The Renault Clio was being driven by a 22-year-old man from Wendover in Buckinghamshire, he was also uninjured.
The accident happened as the Volvo was being driven along Redbourn Lane toward Harpenden, followed by the Renault Clio. The Volvo then stopped to turn right into Harpenden Rugby Club, it was at this point that it was involved in a collision with the Vauxhall Astra travelling in the opposite direction.
