COUNCILLORS and MPs from across Essexare taking part in a Parliament lobby tomorrow (Wednesday) to protest against the possibility of waste incinerators in Essex.
'The Threat of Waste Incinerators in Essex' is being organised by Essex Friends of the Earth at the Boothroyd Room, Portcullis House, Westminster. The lobby will be preceded by a rally outside the House of Commons.
Epping Forest MP Eleanor Laing is leadjng the Essex group which is expected to include Colchester MP Bob Russell, Braintree MP Alan Hurst, North Weald district and parish councillor David Stallan, Ongar district and parish councillor Derek Jacobs and Ongar parish councillor Barbara Szymanek.
Mrs Laing is expected to speak on the controversial issue along with speakers from across the UK.
Referring to the issue of incineration under the proposed Essex and Southend Waste Plan, and the possibility of a waste management centre on North Weald airfield, Mr Stallan said: "Our aim is to make sure the government knows that people in Essex are angry and genuinely concerned about the issue, and that it needs to make amendments to the plan urgently."
Essex Friends co-ordinator Paula Whitney also hinted at the possibility of legal action if this endeavour failed to sway the government.
