ST ALBANS BOYS SCHOOL pupil Thomas Bedford is the latest beneficiary of the St Albans Luncheon Club charity, having been selected by the regional Sportsaid Grants Committee in Bedford last month.
The international cross-country and steeple-chase athlete received a grant of £250 at a lunch hosted by Verulam Golf Club, a fair proportion of which has already been spent in preparation for the long cross country season.
New spikes and winter gear have since been acquired with winter training in mind, but Bedford states there have been other benefits: "It's brilliant to think I was selected for this against all the other sportsmen around.
"It's great to get recognised and it does encourage you; you want to make sure you live up to the standards set."
