SCHOOL governors have achieved the first governance qualifications in Hertfordshire.
The 16 governors, who took part in a pilot scheme, have gained a BTEC qualification at Oaklands College in Welwyn Garden City.
School governance officer Gail Summers hopes their success will attract more people to the job.
The A level equivalent not only gives official recognition to the work of governors but is also an entry into higher education.
Ms Summers said: "The first students came from all over the county and ranged from young mums to retired people."
