AN 18-year-old man walking home from his girlfriend's house was the victim of a ferocious mugging in London Road, St Albans, in the early hours of Thursday, November 1.

A group of six males attacked the man, after one called out to him: "Come here, I want a word with you" near the junction with Alma Road at about 2am.

Believing he might know the group, the man stopped, but he was soon surrounded by his attackers who started pushing him and asking if he had money or a mobile phone.

After he claimed he had nothing on him, one of the robbers punched him in the face.

The man handed over his mobile phone and £20 in cash, but was then held by two members of the group while the main attacker punched him in the face at least five times, headbutted him and swore at him.

The 18-year-old then broke free and ran away.

The suspects are described as white males, between 18 and 19 years of age, with local accents, acting very aggressively and appearing drunk.

All were wearing dark clothing at the time of the attack, apart from one who wore a white shirt.

The main robber had black spikey, ungelled hair, which was about an inch long, was dressed quite smartly, may have worn a ring, was about 5ft 9in in height and was of medium build.

Witnesses, or anyone with information about the attack, can call St Albans crime desk on 01727 796002.
