RUNNERS from Bishop's Stortford Running Club took part in the 15th Stevenage Mencap Half Marathon on Sunday and Liam Shells was the first Stortford man home with a time of 1hr 28min 36sec. He was followed across the line by Chris Tate in 1hr 31min 56sec, Les Thurton (1hr 37min 40sec), Gillian Warren (1hr 56min 5sec), Helen Kruth (2hr 1min) and Lorraine Evans (2hr 3min 48sec).
Also on Sunday, Paul Row took part in the annual Dovedale Dash in the Peak District National Park, completing the 4.5-mile course in 47min.
Club member Brian Glazebrook took part in the Seven Sisters Marathon held near Eastbourne, on October 27. Over a hilly off-road course he ran an excellent race to finish 19th in 3hr 31min.
On Monday, October 29 a few club members made the trip to Dublin to take part in the popular marathon. The temperature was ideal if a little windy. The usual support from the USA was missing, but Tim Webb still finished in a good time of 3hr 4min 20sec, closely followed by Tim Kelly in a personal best of 3hr 5min 41sec.
The club meets in the Hockerill Sports and Social Club clubhouse in Beldams Lane on Wednesdays at 7.30pm and Sundays at 9.30am and new members are always welcome. Contact Chris Tate on 01279 503121 for details.
