Over the years Barnet Council has painted over our high streets with prohibitive yellow lines and reduced the number of parking spaces with the introduction of money-making parking bays.

Now, in an effort to be seen to be helping those shop traders that have so often been totally neglected, Barnet Council is harassing hard working and courteous Bulgarian rose sellers who give us a much needed and friendly service. What will I tell my mother and wife when I turn up without floral gifts?

On my travels I have never seen an accident being caused by the actions of these flower sellers. And is this activity harming local flower shops? Of course not. Who believes that flower shops depend solely on rose sales?

To the point, the council would not be getting extra parking revenue from those wishing to buy flowers, either from parking vouchers or penalty charge notices.

Motorists should continue to support our flower sellers and resist these petty rules. It is not yet illegal for drivers to buy flowers from these sellers.
