A FLAGSHIP housing development designed to provide cheaper accommodation for teachers and nurses, might not be able to deliver on its promises.
Linden Homes Chiltern's multi-million pound project, which could see 302 new homes built on land near Watford Metropolitan Line Station, will be discussed in detail at a special council meeting next week.
Developers promised 25 per cent of homes would be "affordable" homes available to rent and aimed at professionals, such teachers and nurses.
The provision for the first phase of the scheme 114 flats and houses on the land at Station Approach has been agreed in principle.
But the number of cheaper homes in the remainder of the development, which relies on gaining funding from housing associations, is uncertain.
A plan to offer some homes for sale at a discount price has been rejected as it will not meet the requirements of Watford's planning blueprint.
A special meeting of Watford Council's planning and licensing committee will be held on Tuesday, November 20, in an attempt to reach an agreement and discuss other issues relating to the development.
