HERTSMERE Borough Council is doing its bit for national No Smoking Day on Wednesday, March 9, by encouraging residents to kick the habit.
Officials are trying to persuade people to give up by emphasising the financial benefits.
A person who smokes 20 cigarettes a day will save £400 in just three months if they stop puffing away.
Richard Crooks, Hhead of environmental health, said: "Stopping smoking is about a fresh start, not just about getting rid of an old habit.
"Waking up to all the benefits of stopping, feeling fresh and smoke-free, with more money to spend on other things is all good news."
If you want to give up smoking, telephone Hertfordshire Smoking Cessation Service on 0800 389 3998.
The service is free and ready to offer support, including nicotine replacement therapy.
