A WAITER from Bricket Wood is to undertake a gruelling cycle across China this year in aid of a deaf children's charity.

Mr Shahin Miah, aged 32, pledged to raise £2,500 for the National Deaf Children's Society (NDCS) after signing up for the Global Charity Challenge.

He said: "This is a real personal challenge for me.

"It will be tough going and I have a lot of training to do between now and setting off, but I'm delighted to succeed and raise as much money as possible for deaf children and their families across the UK.

"Each day will consist of up to seven hours in the saddle through tough but spectacular scenery it really is a perfect way to explore this amazing country at close quarters."

NDCS challenge event manager Clair Rowney said: "We are thrilled that Shahin is joining our unique adventure.

"His energy and commitment will help us to raise money that is desperately needed to fund our advice, information and support services for deaf children and their families across the UK."
