FOLLOWING the fall-out from the resignation of chairman Sir Elton John, Watford's board has to pick up the pieces.

Directors, surprised and possibly stunned by the developments, are in the process of designing a support package for the club's financial structure in the wake of the Carlton-Granada debacle.

It is is thought the rock star was part of that support package which may have involved a further loan, contribution or guarantee in the light of the fact Watford are going to have a significant shortfall on income.

The former chairman's departure will have added to the individual financial responsibility of Watford's directors.

It is thought the rock star will continue as honorary life president of the club and the Elton John Suite and proposed new restaurant in the replacement Main Stand will be kept, testimony to the times when he made a significant contribution to Watford's cause, which should never be undervalued.
