A MAN from Rickmansworth hopes to raise £500 to fund a trip to Ghana, by drumming for 12 hours solid on Saturday, June 15.
Mr Rafael Singer, 21, of Salters Close, Rickmansworth, organised the drum-a-thon to raise funds for the six-month exchange trip, organised by the World Youth Millennium Award team.
Nineteen young people from both Ghana and the UK will take part in the exchange.
The British Government sponsors each team member £5,000 but individuals must raise £500 on their own.
Mr Singer will travel to Scotland for a short stay, before leaving for Ghana in late July, where he will stay with a host family.
He said: "I expect it will be strange at first, especially in Ghana, but having to adjust to the differences will be personally rewarding."
Mr Singer will be part of a team teaching children and disabled adults, and working on community projects.
He will be playing the drums at Basement Studios in Greenhill Crescent, Watford, between 9am and 9pm.
He said: "It's going to be hard work but it's all for a good cause. I just hope my arms can hold out for that long."
