Over the next few weeks the people of Borehamwood and Elstree will be able to enjoy a variety of fun events, including celebrity football matches, rock 'n' roll concerts and a festival parade.
The 46th annual Elstree and Borehamwood Town Festival will be launched on Saturday, June 22, with the Festival Parade, and will end with Families Day, in Meadow Park, on Saturday, July 6.
Families Day will feature a football tournament involving stars from television's EastEnders, medieval fire throwers, competitions and a children's roadshow.
Tickets are still available for the events which require them, and the town council, which has organised the festival, hopes this year's programme will appeal to everyone.
Entries are being accepted for this year's Festival Parade, which has been shortened to accommodate more people on foot and will be led by the Air Training Corps cadets. This year's route will take in Gateshead Road and Brook Road, and miss out Leeming Road and Aycliffe Road, because of roadworks.
A Rock and Roll Night will be held that day, at Allum Hall, in Allum Lane, at 7pm, featuring live music, a jive school and dance displays. Tickets cost £5 in advance.
The Half Marathon and Fun Run, organised by Boreham Wood Athletic Club and sponsored by Pinnacle Insurance, will take place on Sunday, June 23.
Entry details are available by phoning 020 8207 2852.
There will be three free concerts at All Saints Church, in Shenley Road, including Diva Timento, with popular songs for sopranos, on Wednesday, June 26, and Borehamwood Brass, the following day.
The town's fire and police stations will hold open days on Saturday, June 29, when Borehamwood and District Garden Crafts Society will stage its Festival Summer Flower Show, in Allum Hall.
The BBC Elstree Centre will host the 15th annual Elstree Film Evening that day, with celebrity guests, film clips and music.
Tickets, costing £4, must be purchased in advance.
Musical All Sorts, with Borehamwood Light Operatic Society performing songs from musicals, will be staged at Fairway Hall, in Brook Close, Borehamwood, on Friday, June 28, and Saturday, June 29.
Young rock groups from the area will take to the stage at Boreham Wood FC, in Broughinge Road, on Sunday, June 30, and there will be a Senior Citizens' Festival Concert on Wednesday, July 3.
A festival six-a-side football tournament will be held at the Hertswood Centre on Sunday, July 7.
Team entries cost £10. For information call Ricky Brown at The Venue on 020 8386 9886.
Groups wishing to have stalls at Families Day and anyone wanting further information about the various events should phone the town council on 020 8207 1382.
