Pupils at Borehamwood's Hertswood School were rewarded for the hard work they have put into their GCSEs with a recent prom.

More than 90 year 11 students, dressed in dinner suits and ball gowns, attended the Leavers Prom held on a boat on the River Thames in London, on Thursday, May 23.

A fleet of three coaches took the students to the party, which was held just before they went on study leave for their GCSEs, which they will be taking until the end of June.

Hertswood assistant headteacher Andy Stainton said: "It is one of the things we are trying to do in changing the idea of what education is and to celebrate the students' success.

"The year 11s have worked very hard this year, and we are hoping for improvement in the GCSE pass rate."

The year's head of learning Claudia Giarusso added: "We are really proud of the effort the students have put in over the past two years, and look forward to good results with many of them returning into the sixth form in September."

* Year eight pupils in the school's faculty of expressive arts displayed their skills with a showcase, in the lower school hall on Thursday, May 30, to more than 100 parents.

A total 90 students presented artwork, dance, drama and music on the theme of World Arts, based on work they had done over the past half-term.
