New taxi ranks are to be set up in Borehamwood, Radlett and Potters Bar under a new council initiative.
Until recently there was only one taxi rank in Hertsmere, outside Elstree and Borehamwood railway station. Cabbies complained that they were unable to make a living, and wanted new taxi ranks across the borough.
New taxi ranks have already been established in Borehamwood, near Leeming Road, Clarendon Road and at the junction of Elstree Way and Warwick Road.
The borough council also plans to build new taxi ranks near the railway stations in Radlett and Potters Bar.
Borehamwood-based driver Alan Morson said: "We are very happy. It gives us more scope to pick up custom."
He said that once people knew the ranks were available, and that taxis could be hailed whenever their yellow lights were on, the cabs would become a more familiar sight in Hertsmere.
