Borehamwood Bowls club celebrated the Queens Golden Jubilee on Tuesday, June 4, with an in-house Presidents versus Vice Presidents match.
Bowlers were invited to wear red, white and blue, instead of traditional bank holiday white, and, in festive mood, the Presidents teams triumphed overall with a 97-86 win.
The Presidents' top rink was Andy Bennett, Eric Witney and Betty Lacey, led by Kay Stocker, who received their prizes from the president, Sid Butcher.
On Saturday Borehamwood entertained Croxley in the Watford and District League, and drew an exciting match 50-50.
The two winning rinks for Borehamwood were Tom Barker's team of Arthur Muir, Bill Maunder and Norman Harrison, who won 19-17, and Eric Witney, Sid Butcher and Alf Dickens, led by club captain Roy Edwards, who won 15-11.
Ironically, it was Arthur Moseley, on the losing rink, whose last wood-winning shot secured the draw.
In the St Albans and District singles competition Arthur Moseley triumphed 21-19.
The Watford and District ladies competition saw Jean Snook's team of Edna Hardiman and Doris Edwards show nerves of steel to replicate their success of last week by winning on the extra end.
