AFTER the festivities of the Queen's Golden Jubilee weekend, there is now a display at County Hall in Hertford showing how they partied back in June 1887 for Queen Victoria's Jubilee.
Hertfordshire archives and local studies staff dug out old records of the celebrations of Queen Victoria's 50 years on the throne.
A crowd of 2,000 munched their way through 2,000 lbs of beef, mutton, pork and meat pies, 180 gallons of pale ale and 250 gallons of lemonade - a sharp contrast to the sausage rolls, strawberries and champagne consumed during this year's festivities.
The county council's executive member forcCommunity information Councillor Derrick Ashley said: "It's a fascinating glimpse into a very different way of life.
"Thousands of people enjoyed feasts and special events from sports days to baby shows and I'm told the celebrations for Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee were even more lavish."
The display of memorabilia will be on show in the library reading room throughout June.
