PUPILS of St Andrews Montessori School will use their pedal power once again this year to raise funds for a children's charity.

Children across all year groups will take to their bikes, trikes and pedal cars at the the school in High Elms Lane, Garston, to join in the UK wide sponsored cycle ride Pedal Push 2002.

The event on Tuesday aims to raise more than £200,000 for ChildLine, which provides a free help and advice to children and families in trouble or danger.

Chairman of the charity Esther Rantzen said: "Last year's Pedal Push was a great success, raising over £150,000 for ChildLine.

"All money raised through St Andrews Montessori School's Pedal Push will help ChildLine answer more calls and offer comfort, advice and protection to local children who feel they have nowhere else to turn."

At present ChildLine is only able to answer one third of the attempted calls it receives every day from children in trouble or distress, due to lack of funds.

Many children may need to redial several times before getting through to obtain the help they so desperately need, which can lead to some giving up altogether.

Participating pupils will be sponsored for every lap of the playground they complete, and are free to choose to cycle as many as they wish or feel they are able to.
