A STUDENT of Aldenham School is well on his way to achieving his ambition of a career in mechanical engineering having been awarded an Arkwright Scholarship.
Stuart Bowyer, 16, of Aldenham School received the national award after successfully completing the Arkwright Selection Paper in April.
In this event he was commended for having demonstrated flair and originality in solving engineering design problems in addition to his presentation of GCSE work to a panel of interviewers.
Stuart will receive his award at a formal presentation ceremony held at The Institution of Electrical Engineers and The Royal Aeronautical Society, in London.
First founded in 1990, The Arkwright Trust supports young people during their years of study in A Level/higher education by awarding individuals £250 a year to assist with the purchase of materials and books.
Following the students win, the design and technology department at Aldenham School in Aldenham Road, Elstree, will also receive £500.
With his sights set on eventually joining the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, Stuart is currently applying for an Army Scholarship to study A Level Design Technology, Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry.
The proud student said: "I am delighted to achieve this award and with the guidance and support of my Design Technology teachers at Aldenham it is excellent that the school and I have both benefited."
