BLONDE is the new brown at least for two people in Watford this week anyway.

As part of the Peace Hospice's fundraising week, Go Yellow, The Watford Observer's chief reporter Caroline Graham, 25, and Watford florist David Greenfield, 37, had their hair dyed from dark brown to blonde.

Both participants put themselves in the hands of stylist Joanne Kent, 25, from Saks Hair and Beauty salon in Clarendon Road, Watford one of the first salons to sign up to Go Blonde agreeing to donate ten per cent of all takings from colourings, highlights and tints directly to the Peace Hospice.

Joanne, who performed both transformations, and said she was delighted with the result.

David, who co-owns Rosanna's florist in St Albans Road, said after his trip to Saks no one recognised him.

Chief reporter Caroline raised at least £400 in sponsorship money by going from brunette to blonde.

This is the first year the hospice has come up with the idea of Go Blonde an idea that arose from Go Yellow week the national fundraising week for hospices which runs until Sunday.

Saks Hair and Beauty made a rough estimate that the salon would raise about £200 for the hospice from blonde colourings during Go Blonde week.

Spokesman for the Peace Hospice Jill Davis said: "We tried to think of an idea that would be fun and we are delighted that people have decided to go blonde on our behalf.

"This is the first time we have done this and we hope next year we will have even more people involved."
