A GRANT of £5,000 is to be allocated for street lighting in one of Bovingdon's darkest residential streets, it was announced this week. The news, officially revealed to residents at a meeting of the parish council in the Memorial Hall, Bovingdon on Monday night, concerns Ryder Close, and follows months of campaigning by residents and local councillors.
However funds made available via Dacorum Borough Council are unlikely to cover the entire costs needed to light the street which is estimated to be nearer £7,000.
Chairman of Bovingdon Parish Council, Mrs Sylvia McClelland said that while the news was a step in the right direction, residents of the street might need to raise the remaining sum themselves.
Following a suggestion that the parish council might put towards it, Vice-Chairman, Mr Michael King-Jones said: "It would be great to be able to help with the costs, but we have to be careful we do not set a presidence.
"What's to say that if we give to one, others will expect and demand the same."
The parish council agreed to write to Dacorum for further information as to how it might raise the remaining funds needed.
