HUNDREDS of shoppers in Watford have called on the Government to address world water shortages that cause a child to die every 15 seconds.
Shoppers signed the Water Matters petition that is to be presented to Downing Street by Christian relief and development agency Tearfund and water industry charity WaterAid.
The petition calls on the Prime Minister and UK Government to take action to ensure the world's poorest people have access to safe and affordable water and adequate sanitation.
"The Government and other UN countries have said that they are going to halve the number of people in the world without access to drinking water by 2015", says local Tearfund campaigner Paul Langston.
"The people of Watford are asking this Government and other world powers to turn their words into actions to prevent the water crisis from getting worse."
