The first artist's impression of the new Ashmole School reveal a facelift for the old building.
Heating and electrical problems in the current dilapidated 1940s buildings in Cecil Road, Southgate, have left children unable to attend school nine times in the last 18 months. But the new three-storey £12million development promises a different story.
Headteacher Derrick Brown is pleased with the first impressions.
"The school will be more dense and more effective in its land use," he said. "Hopefully it will improve things for the neighbours."
If financial and legal details are sorted out, building work could begin in the autumn and be completed by summer 2004. The old buildings will be demolished once the new ones are in place, so that lessons will not be disturbed.
