Scores of players and parents attended Boreham Wood 2000 FC's annual presentation nights at Meadow Park recently.

Micky Engwell, the first team manager from Boreham Wood FC, was there to hand out trophies to the U10s, U11s and U12s teams on Friday, June 7, and the U15s, U16s and U17s teams on Saturday.

"I have been keeping a close eye on all the football being played by the Boreham Wood 2000 players," he said.

"I've had many chances to speak to the managers, and it seems they appreciate that the first team manager is taking an interest in all the age groups.

"There's a lot of talent here, and it is talent I enjoy watching. I love these evenings, and it was a pleasure to hand out the trophies for U10s manager John Jennings.

"He has some very good players; one who caught my eye was Jack Tidd, and sure enough he won the Manager's Player of the Year and the Parents' Player of the Year awards.

"Also there that evening were fellow managers Anton Martin, from the U11s team, and Kevin Marshallsay, from the U12s.

"Anton's team have finished in a comfortable position in the league, and he has some very good players. Alfie Plumb is one of many, he was the one who took Players' Player of the Year, and Parents' Player of the Year, and he deserved them. Like most goalkeepers he's daft as a brush, but has improved immensely."

Micky said that Kevin Marshallsay's's U12s team all did well, and one player, Robin Knight, stood out. He won the Players' Player of the Year and Parents' Player of the Year awards.

In the older age groups the winners were:

For the U15s Players' Player went to Billy Smith, and Manager's Player went to James Percival. In the U16s Steven Detmar won both the Manager's Player and Players' Player awards. The leading goalscorer was Joe Hanzard.

For the U17s Mark Whittington won the Players' Player award, and the leading goalscorer was Haben Tesim.

In finishing, Micky said: "Overall, it was a great weekend, and I look forward to doing more for Boreham Wood 2000."

With Boreham Wood 2000 FC teams taking nine trophies this year, ranging from County Cups, Challenge and League cups, next year promises even more silverware.

Chairman Danny Hunter said: "Not bad for a club in only its second season. I'm delighted with the progress of the youth structure, which now has age groups from U10s all the way to Boreham Wood's first team.

"There's still a long way to go, but if you improve on all aspects of the club each year then we will make a difference! Certainly some of the players at the club have a future in the game."
