Hertsmere U10's ended their season on a high note, by finishing runners-up in the St Albans City tournament on Sunday.
Needing to win their group to progress, Division Two side Hertsmere did just that, winning two and drawing two of their games, to finish on eight points.
On the way, they beat Berkhamsted 3-0 and Premier Division favourites St Albans City 1-0, and drew 1-1 against both Flitwick and Minchenden Youth.
Hertsmere's goals were scored by Jack Baker (3) and Sam Dunne (3) whose thunderous volley was a contender for goal of the tournament.
The semi-final saw Hertsmere play Premier Division Harvesters, and although they dominated the game, the match went to extra time before Baker netted again to seal the win.
In the final Hertsmere played another Premier Team, London Colney. The match was settled by a debatable goal, after Dunne was pushed in the back attempting a header, and the ball was poked home in the ensuing scramble. Try as they might the boys could not get the goal back and they had to settle for runners-up.
There were superb performances from all the boys, led by Jack Warwick, particularly from keeper Ellis Molyneux who played despite receiving a nasty injury the day before.
Hertsmere U10's: Ellis Molyneux, Jack Warwick (captain), Andrew Rowland, Sam Dunne, Jake Willcox, Jack Baker, Daniel Walsh and John Grace.
