The ladies of the Borehamwood Women's Institute enjoyed a fascinating discussion about Britain's heritage at their June meeting on Thursday.
John Smith put together a talk entitled Our Heritage, a Beautiful Country, featuring slides, music and a commentary. This month's competition, in which members were asked to bring in a favourite heirloom, was won by Barbara Norman with an embroidered sampler dated 1836. Florrie Cowley took second place with a Special Constabulary baton from 1853, and Arma Crome took third place with a box for sovereign coins and stamps, made out of silver.
The next meeting will be held at Borehamwood Village Hall in Shenley Road at 7.30pm on Thursday, July 11. Visitors are welcome.
