A MAN was crushed against a petrol pump on Tuesday, June 18, when a driver accidentally accelerated towards him.
The incident happened at Tesco in High Road, Bushey Heath, at 7pm.
Mr Tony Adams, who was filling up his car at the petrol station, described how a woman waiting in her car to use the pumps "suddenly reared off and hit this guy".
He said: "He crumpled to the ground shouting 'I'm going to die, I'm going to die'."
Bystanders rushed to help the victim and the panic-stricken driver.
Fire engines from Watford, Garston and Bushey attended the scene following fears leaking petrol would ignite.
Firefighters made the filling station safe by covering the area with a foam from a jet spray.
The injured man was taken to Watford General Hospital with a suspected broken leg. His injuries were described as non-serious.
