Peter Shreeves was a happy man last week when he was given the number one target on his transfer shopping list.

Junior Agogo, a 22-year-old striker, signed on the dotted line last Friday to give the Bees' forward line a real boost ahead of pre-season training.

Agogo, who is 5ft 11in, played under Peter Shreeves for Sheffield Wednesday and was signed on a free transfer from USA Major League side San Jose Earthquakes despite attracting attention from QPR.

The young hot-shot has notched goals wherever he has gone which included six goals in ten games for Chester City while on loan and a further goal at Lincoln City from two appearances.

Two games for QPR on a non-contract basis and loan deals at Chesterfield and Oldham have given the front man valuable experience at League level. Agogo is looking forward to pitting his wits against Conference defences. He said: "I'm very happy joining Barnet. When I heard Shreevsie was here I had no hesitation in signing.

"My experience in the USA was unbelievable and there are a lot of quality players out there as you can see from how they're playing in the World Cup.

Obviously the style of football in the Conference will be different but I'm up for the challenge and hopefully I'll show the Barnet fans pace and a lot of goals."

Peter Shreeves, who was assistant to David Pleat when Wednesday signed the Ghanaian from Willesden, was delighted to have secured Agogo's services.

He said: "He was a refreshing lad who played and scored at reserve team level and got one chance on the substitutes bench for a game at Newcastle.

"He left Wednesday after I did to play in America. He looks fit and hopefully will provide the final bit of the jigsaw we need at Underhill."

Agogo whose first name is actually Manuel was a schoolboy at Chelsea before signing a professional contract for the Owls when he was 17.

He made two first team appearances for the Yorkshire side before being farmed out on loan.

Agogo was accompanied by his advisor, former Luton Town legend and England star Ricky Hill, before completing his medical and the necessary paperwork last week
