WATFORD FENCING CLUB hosted their tenth annual National Open Sabre Tournament on Sunday, June 16, at their new venue, the Princess Marina Sports Complex in the grounds of the Rickmansworth Masonic School for Girls.
This year the competition, open to all sabreurs with events for both Ladies and Mens, attracted a strong entry of ranked fencers from both Great Britain and the United States.
The competition was extremely hard-fought with superb finals en-gala and many of the lowest rank fencers were given the opportunity to pit their wits against some of the possible finalists.
The awards were kindly presented by Councillor Gladstone Providence, Chairman of Three Rivers District Council Rickmansworth.
Results:
Ladies: 1, Jessica Lacheta (London Thames Fencing Club); 2, Jo Hutchison (Bath Sword Club); 3, Julia Rhodes (North London Sword Club); 4, Robynne Stenner (Bath Sword Club).
Mens: 1, Peter Wright (North London Sword Club); 2, Julian Nelis (Hunt-Roeder); 3, Bradley Baker (Massachusetts, USA); 4, Jon Sallfield (Truro).
