ST ALBANS CRICKET CLUB produced one of their best batting performances of the season to get the better of a draw with high-flying Hertford at Clarence Park in the Home Counties Division two East, thanks principally to an outstanding all-round performance from Simon White.

Put into bat, Saints were given a great start by Josh Holt and Matt Howeson, who put on 94 for the first wickets in 50 minutes before Holt was finally stumped for 53.

However, after Howeson was needlessly run out for 46, accumulated off just 56 balls, Saints looked as if they might waste the openers' endeavours as three further quick wickets fell to leave them on 124-5.

Iain Curtis and White steadied the ship, taking the score to 159 before Curtis was stumped for 19. This brought Richard O'Toole to the wicket and he and White then put on a century stand for the 6th wicket in just 44 minutes before O'Toole was caught for 47. White finally fell for 75 as Saints innings closed at 263-9 with the Hertford county off-spinner Ben Fraser causing most of the damage with 6-93 off 26 overs.

Chasing a formidable target, Hertford were never really in the hunt despite an opening stand of 69, a partnership ended when White bowled Stannard for 45.
