Hertsmere Borough Council's Civic Offices in Borehamwood were evacuated on Tuesday morning after a fire in the kitchen. The fire was caused by oil overheating in a chip pan, in the basement kitchen, and although it was put out by the chef using a damp cloth, the smoke triggered the fire alarm at around 10.30am. Firefighters made the scene safe and staff re-entered after 15 minutes.
