In a low-scoring match, which saw Elstree 2nd XI chasing 120 runs against a young Cockfosters team, youth triumphed over experience.
With key bowlers either injured or away, Elstree's three bowlers did well to skittle the opposition out for 120 in 40 overs. Jeff Weston (4-37) starred, taking four wickets in an impressive spell, with good support from Gary Mahoney (3-37), returning from a holiday in the sun.
The Elstree fielding was exceptional and John Grace (1-32) stooped low to take a fine catch off his own bowling.
Despite a gritty 28 from Steve Howlett, supported by Craig Barker (16), Tim Shilling (19) and Nightingale (10), Elstree fell short of their target by 17 runs. Elstree's batsmen will be looking to repay their bowler's efforts in their next match at home to Northchurch on Saturday.
