Members of the Hertsmere Flyers recently competed in three open competitions in short succession.
The first was the Stevenage Open, where eight members attained top-six positions. The most successful swimmers were: Emma Tootill, second in 100m breast; Sarah Conyard, third in 50m free, fourth in 100m back; Gareth Fernandes, fifth in 50m fly, and Ross Fernandes, sixth in 100m medley. Other members who swam and attained personal bests were: Alex Taylor, Leanne Fernandes, Kirsty Sherrard and Matthew Farrell.
The second competition was for the more experienced members of the club. Three members competed in the County Masters competition on June 15, at Borehamwood. Between them, they recorded ten top-six places, gaining a creditable eleventh place, out of 16, for the team.
The results were: Susan Thorpe, second in 50m breast and back, third in 100m medley, fourth in 50m free; Mike Barber, first in 100m medley, second in 50m back, breast and free, third in 50m fly; and Steve Munkley, sixth in fly.
The last competition was the Potters Bar Open on June 22, with 11 top six positions recorded. The most successful swimmers were: Sarah Conyard, second in 100m medley, third in 100m free, fourth in 100m back; Sarah Trentham, third in 100m free and breast; Sarah Dereve, fourth in 100m free and breast; and Ros Fernandes, fifth in 100m back, and sixth in 100m free, breast and medley. Other members who achieved personal bests were Emma Tootill, Leanne Fernandes and Louise Conyard.
