On Saturday Borehamwood Bowls Club entertained East Barnet Valley to the sound of a carnival band.
There were four rinks of men's triples, and Borehamwood went down fighting by 59-39 in a competitive match.
There was only one winning team, Happy Dimes and Andy Bennett led by Roy Edwards, which resulted in a 16-11 victory. The ladies rink lost by 14-16.
On Sunday Borehamwood travelled to Kings Langley, where the hosts won by 46-63 in three rinks. A good win was secured by Eric Witney, Sid Butcher and Dave Winter, led by Tom Barker, by 19-14, while Tony Parker, Neville Simons, Ron Price and Arthur Moseley triumphed 20-13. However, the third rink inexplicably went down heavily by 7-36, which gave Kings Langley a charitable 17-shot victory.
The ladies rink again lost narrowly by two shots, 16-18.
In the second round of the Herts County Pairs Roy Edwards and Tom Barker secured an emphatic and satisfying win by 20 shots to 8 over a pair from Oakhill.
The second round of the St Albans and District Triples competition saw more successes for Borehamwood, when Tom Barker, Ron Price and club captain Roy Edwards beat Townsend 18-17.
Maud Maunder and Eileen Mason won their match against Berkhamsted in the Watford and District pairs by 22-12.
