Having not played for the previous two weeks, Elstree were hoping to claim some much-needed points on Saturday, in order to climb away from the danger zone in their division.

But, with players dropping out late or not showing at all, this became an almost impossible task. Nevertheless, the ten who did play battled away valiantly, and at least picked up five points.

Having won the toss and elected to bat, Elstree set off really well, with runs coming freely. Unfortunately, most of the top order batsmen got themselves out when looking in good form and set for big scores. Rowland (18), Watson (8), Dunn (20) and Cadogan (18) reflected this.

The lower order played well, with young Lee Digweed scoring 21, before another rush of blood cost him his wicket, leaving Dave Debare as the only recognised batsmen left.

He top-scored with an excellent 36, before being trapped lbw, leaving 14-year-old Emma Cane and debutante Steve Skeggs to inch the score past 140 and into the bonus points. The innings finally closed on 146 when the latter was stumped.

With not many runs to defend on a good batting wicket, Elstree's weakened attack toiled hard, but being a man short left so many holes that runs came freely. Digweed and Dunn both claimed a wicket apiece, as did Salim, but no further breakthroughs came and the visitors cruised to victory with significant overs to spare.

Elstree now face three away matches on the trot, and can only hope their missing players are available again next week.
