A disabled Borehamwood man was given award for his achievements on an adult learning course, despite difficult circumstances.
Lloyd Knight, a computer and disability awareness student at Oaklands College, in Elstree Way, Borehamwood, was recently given a part-time adult learner award for his hard work and valuable contribution to discussions and activities.
Judges decided Mr Knight had shown "special courage" by returning to learning after difficulties in the previous few years, which included having to leave his job, where he had worked since leaving school because his father who also worked there became ill, and losing both his parents within a short time to cancer.
Mr Knight, who is 37 and has cerebral palsy, said: "Attending college has given me a lot of confidence, I have made new friends and I want to continue.
"I was very proud to receive the award. I have never had anything like that before."
