FOR some reason, going for a drink in the Flag never appealed to me, but now I've actually been in there, my unfounded prejudice has been shattered.
But then you are always going to like a place when the staff are friendly and extremely helpful, as I found they were at the Flag.
Granted, I paid £4 on the door to get in, but it stays open until 1am, so it's not too bad if you intend to stay until the wee small hours.
Which is, unintentionally, what I ended up doing.
A band were playing, and without going into too much detail as this is a pub, not a band, review they were of a good standard.
The Flag is a big pub, so it meant despite the band giving it their all, I could still maintain a conversation with my friends, even if I did have to go up a few decibels to be heard. There's a big dance floor too, so you can shake off some excess alcohol if needs be.
The decor was also pleasing, and there were plenty of comfy sofas which I have mixed feelings about in pubs. On the one hand, they make a place look modern and cosy but, on the other, it means everyone just slumps into them and nobody can be bothered to get back up to get their round in.
All in all, I had a most enjoyable time at the Flag, and will certainly be returning for more of the same in the future.
