NEW gates now in place at Woodside Playing Fields are a major step forward in improving security and cutting down the crime.
Since late 1999 Watford Council's has worked with residents and partners including North Watford Police, sports clubs based at Woodside and the Warner Village site landlord, to addressf vandalism and anti social behaviour and what could be done to make things better.
The initiative has been co-ordinated by the Council's Parks Service Manager, Dave Jenkins.
The gates are seen as one solution to preventing illegal entry on to the Woodside complex at night. They will be locked by the Council's Parks Patrol at 11.30pm and reopened at 7am on weekdays and 7.30am at weekends.
Sergeant Greg Taylor from North Watford Police's Community Safety Team said: "Woodside is subject to vandalism, nuisance behaviour and abandoning of vehicles on a regular basis.
"We see the gates as being important in making the site a safer place to be. "But the gates are only one of a number measures we will take including the enforcement of anti social behaviour legislation and working with other agencies to direct young people away from such behaviour."
