A MASSIVE backlog of doctor appointments is to be eliminated by cutting GP paperwork in the Watford area.
Waiting times for routine consultations at six surgeries are currently being monitored by the Watford and Three Rivers Primary Care Trust (PCT) as part of a National Primary Care Collaborative (NPCC) scheme.
The project, which started in October last year, aims to reduce delays, increase efficiency and ensure appropriate medication is given at practices in south west Hertfordshire.
Measures such as reducing the amount of red tape expected from doctors and transferring routine responsibilities to other medical professionals, including nurses, have been adopted.
Taking part in the pilot programme are Tudor Surgery in Bushey, Chorleywood Health Centre, Attenborough Surgery in Bushey, Suthergrey House in Watford, Sheepcot Medical Centre in Garston and Colne House in Rickmansworth.
At a PCT meeting last Thursday, Ms Shirley Shailer, NPCC project manager, updated members on progress made at the surgeries.
