FORMER England Under-21 coach Peter Taylor is the early choice to become Watford's new manager among voters in The Watford Observer's online poll, but John Ward is also believed to want to return to Vicarage Road.

Sources in the Midlands contend the current Wolverhampton Wanderers' number two would "love" to return to management with the Hornets, and his chances of filling the post vacated by Luca Vialli's sacking might have been enhanced by chief executive Tim Shaw's admission during last week's fans' forum that "one of our directors has spoken to Graham (Taylor) about our situation".

Taylor is known to have twice previously recommended his long-term friend for the Hornets' post, and it is thought Ward, who came to coaching prominence as the current Aston Villa manager's number two at Vicarage Road in the 1980's, would jump at the chance to return to a club with whom he still has a "big empathy".
