HeGCSE students at a Garston secondary school have been commended for the technical and artistic skills they used to create an anti-theft device as part of a county-wide crime prevention scheme.

Students of Parmiter's School, in High Elms Lane, Garston, have been shortlisted for the innovative designs they presented as part of the Hertfordshire Crime Prevention Challenge.

More than 90 students entered the competition pioneered by Hertfordshire Police in connection with Welwyn Hatfield Crime Prevention Panel and Hertfordshire County Council's Children, Schools and Families department.

Students participating in the scheme, designed to enhance design and technology studies at Key Stage 4, were required to design a functional security device to protect a building, vehicle or item of personal property.

The overall winner will receive a cash prize of £100 for themselves, and an addtional £250 for design and technology software for hisor her school.

The two runners-up will each receive £50 and £250 to put towards further software for their school.
