A SCHOOL in Kings Langley recently held a presentation to award pupils with community sports leader status.
Kings Langley School in Love Lane distributed awards to sixth formers who successfully completed their Community Sports Leader Award course at the school.
They are Kylie Butcher, Laura Ottaway, Stephanie Suter, Michelle James, Rhian Davies, Corrie Fenner, Lisa Newing and Gemma Jones.
The girls are the third group to successfully complete the course, which teaches the skills of leadership through sport.
The course forms part of a national scheme of leader awards and is sanctioned by the British Sports Trust.
For many, the course is the first stepping stone to becoming a sports coach.
Course director Ms Yvonne Snow said: "The course aims to produce responsible, motivated and confident people who can lead safe, purposeful and enjoyable sporting and recreational activities in the community."
In order to complete the course, students also had to work for a minimum of ten hours in a voluntary capacity, leading a sporting or recreational activity.
The school is now running its fourth course for 14 sixth formers, both male and female. Schools interested in the award scheme should telephone Dacorum Borough Council's youth sport development manager on 01442 228793.
