A safety survey at Borehamwood's Tesco store found that nearly 80 per cent of children's car seats were wrongly fitted.

Experts were on hand at Shenley Road's Tesco, on June 20, to respond to parents' requests for seats to be checked.

Out of a total 143 checked, they discovered that only 22 per cent were correctly in place, with 54 per cent needing adjustment and 24 per cent being unsuitable for the make of the car. The check was organised, as part of Child Safety Week, by Hertsmere Borough Council, Hertfordshire County Council and Hertsmere Primary Care Trust.
