NICK ROBERTS has made the most of his retirement when it comes to cycling, and his extra hours on the bike paid off on Sunday, June 30, when he came third in his age group in the National Veterans 100-mile Championships east of Brentwood on Sunday.
The 61-year-old's time of 4.28.39 served as good preparation for the National 100-mile race in Yorkshire in a fortnight.
Also competing over that distance, Pete Cookson finished in 4.27.54 in the Hounslow & District event, while Verulam's three-man team of Ian Brazier (59.01), Nicky Hay (1.02.37) and Greg Kitson (1.11.15) won the team event at the Hemel Hempstead 25-mile time trial.
