JOHN WARD has overtaken former England under-21 coach Peter Taylor as the fans' choice to become Watford's new manager.

Graham Taylor's former assistant, who is currently number two to Wolves' manager Dave Jones, has received 27 per cent of the vote in our online poll, compared to 22.5 per cent for Taylor.

Current Gillingham manager Andy Hessenthaler (12 per cent), who was an early front-runner in the poll, has dropped down to fourth behind Steve Coppell (13 per cent).

Of the other Hornets' legends who have been linked with the vacancy, John Barnes is currently the choice of ten per cent, while Kenny Jackett has attracted seven per cent of the vote.

Only 4.5 per cent of voters would like to see caretaker boss Ray Lewington be given the job on a permanent basis, while the Hornets' new chief scout, Nigel Gibbs, is wanted by two per cent.

Following recent speculation, the names of Joe Royle, Tony Adams, Luther Blissett and Dave Bassett have been added to the list this week, but, understandably perhaps, the interest in them has so far been minimal.
