I was intrigued to read in your recent report on the reduction to the multi-purpose Medical Centre at Boulevard 25 the words, "catering for the people who will move into the large housing estates due to be built in Borehamwood."
This raises a number of questions;
1. Does the Times have information that the residents of Borehamwood don't have?
2. Where will the estates be built? In the Woodcock Hill area? Or the conservation area to the north west of Borehamwood, recently acquired by United Synagogues?
3. What kind of estates will they be?
4. How much will be affordable rent/purchase?
5. In view of the large influx of outsiders into Borehamwood in the past 18 months, will this housing be made available to the younger generation of Borehamwood who cannot afford local accommodation?
J Brown,
Morpeth Avenue,
Borehamwood.
*The new housing estates referred to in the article relate to the planned developments at the old Fire Research Station site, off Melrose Avenue, and the three vacant school premises, Hillside, in Hillside Avenue, Furzehill, in Furzehill Road, and Lyndhurst, in Gateshead Road. These developments are expected to result in the building of around 500 new homes. The borough council is obliged to ensure that 25 per cent of large housing developments is affordable housing.
